First of all, what's the question?
y=3x-4 is an equation. To get y, you need x and to get x, you need y. You cannot solve the equation without one or the other.
The form that the equation is in is the generic formula for a line (y=mx+b) where b is the y-intercept. The y intercept is where when x=0, the line intersects the y-axis.

You are drawing a line, plug in numbers for either y or x and then put them on a graph. I like to choose when y=0 and when x=0 for at least two points so that I can see where the intercepts are.
