What are you talking about? You're trying to go upstairs, but the puppy won't or can't? Carry it. Are you trying to make the dog go to sleep? Give it a hot water bottle.
Hopefully you aren't considering PUTTING the dog to sleep because it can't go up stairs.

Maybe put her in a little kennel area -- my husband and I have a kennel area for our dogs. It is blocked off with their actual kennels with the doors open and some baby gates. We put a water dish in there and some blankets. That is their area where they feel safe and where they sleep. They also stay there when we leave the house. That way, they stay out of trouble and they have their little "den" area, which dogs like. Maybe you can make a little area in your house that is your dog's kennel area and train him to stay in that area when you want him to sleep, calm down, or just stay out of your hair for a little while.
