Do not use Q-Tips, someone i know had sever ear infection because of using Q Tips all the time. You can purchase a simple ear cleaner from a drugstore, called Mucil.... or something similar. It comes with a dropper and you can pop that down your ear to clean it out.
Ear candling is dangerous and hot wax could cause your eardrum to scald and damage.
Good luck!

Don't use a q-tip. It will only compact the wax furthur into the ear.
You can try putting peroxide into the ear by laying on your side and having someone pour about a capfull into the ear canal. This will soften the ear wax and boil it to the surface after about 5 minutes or so you and turn to the other side and do the other ear. It may require doing it a couple of times. Then use a q-tip gently around the outside of the ear to remove any residue but not into the canal.
If you are really having trouble go to the doctor and he will irigate the ear removing the wax.
There is also some things at the drug store you can get also.
I have also used ear wax candles but this requires 2 people to do and a lot of caution.

Ear coning
As the cone is burning, excess ear wax is removed from the ear canal into the inside of the cone. The smoke soothes the nasal and sinus cavities. Aside from helping remove ear wax, ear coning may improve your hearing, smell, taste, vision and color perception. it will also detoxify the sinus and lymph system. You may even feel your headaches decreasing. Our ear cones are made of unbleached cotton strips and dipped min wax (beeswax). The cones should be storedin a cool place until they’re ready to use. Preference of 2 or more people is recommended during coning process. It is important to keep an eye on how far the cone burns.

Doctors insist that you shouldn't try to do this, because you could easily damage your ear canal or ear drum. And the traditional method of using a Q-tip is a bad idea because it just packs most of the wax down instead of getting it out. The wax serves a purpose - it keeps dust and dirt from entering your body.
All good points, but let's face it, sometimes you just need to clean that sucker out, right? I would say use a gentle sweeping (not jabbing) motion with a Q-tip, or use your pinky nail (wash your hands carefully before and after!).
In Asia, it's considered healthy and safe to clean out your ear wac; int he shops you can even buy whimsical statues that hold a small bamboo scraper you can use.
