If he doesn't want to be president or thinks he is too old to be president?
Why does he remain in a job inwhich his primary reponsibility is to become president in case of a catrastophe (God forbid)?

He is too old and probably tired to stay around for another 6 or 10 years. However, if there were a catastrophe, he is perfectly able and capable to step in.

He doesn't step down because there is no need to and the President trusts in his good judgment. Also, that would force the President to appoint and support an individual who would possibly run in 2008. I believe the President and VP are going to leave it to the voters and not try to annoint a successor.

Americans nowadays look for telegenic or funny personable men (yes they've been all guys) to run for President.

Dick Cheney is mean, old, ugly, grumpy, grouchy and never smiles. Plus he has a host of health problems that make him think twice about enduring the rigors of a long, tough campaign.

He's too old. And with his health problems, he would never win, let alone survive the added stress of being top man for more than a week or two. I was suprised he stayed on in 2004.

Cheney won't live past another 5-10 years with all of his heart and circulatory system problems.
