Might be a dumb question but does juniors mean more for like teenage girls and misses for older women? For instance would a small in juniors be much smaller than a small in misses?

Misses sizes are even numbers...2,4,6,8,etc. and usually best fit someone over 21.
Junior sizes are odd numbers 3,5,7.9 and are for younger, slimmer figures.
YES, a small in juniors would be smaller than a small in misses.

Actually, it is about proportions and body shapes although it started out to be about teens and grown-ups. Now everyone has blurred the lines. Misses are for those who are more that 5'.5" with longer arms and legs and slimmer body shapes. Juniors are for shorter people and younger people; Petites are for shorter and much thinner people and Womens are for 'the bigger gals'. You will notice that some of the same styles are made in these different proportions. Sometimes there are styles that are made specifically in certain sizes because they are geared toward a certain buyer.

It really makes sense now to try things on in different categories because clothing is not an exact science.

For example, I am 5'4" but I have an average waist length, long arms and legs (like I should be 5'6") so I take Misses and have the length altered. Even when I was much younger, I couldn't shop Juniors, though by only 3/4 to 1 inch, the arms and legs were too short for me and it made a big difference in the fit.

Misses are curvier and juniors have a smaller hip to waist ratio. Juniors sizes tend to come in trendier styles because women tend to get curvier as they get older. "Women's" sizes are really plus sizes.

A small in misses or juniors would be pretty similar in size but would fit different body types.
