I was told that vacuum packing pillows is bad for them becuase they dont fully regain their fluff.

Vacuuming won't hurt. It may actually be better for pillows in storage. You remove air that might otherwise get stale or musty.
You can fluff pillows or any down filled clothing item, to the max, by putting them in an automatic dryer, with no heat, and tumble for about five minutes.

No, usually they are just fine when you take them out but it's always a good idea to let them breathe for a bit before sleeping on them. I have vacuum packed pillows for trips (I hate hotel pillows) and I always unpack them first so by the time I'm ready to sleep, they're good to go. If you still feel like they aren't fluffy enough for you, just give them a quick shake and fluff before you hit the sack. :-)

Vacuum packing pillows is fine for most materials feathers, cellulose fiber or wadding. If you have some older chipped foam pillows they may take longer to expand.

no, I don't think so. I have vacuumed packed pillows and blankets and they always come out just fine

It's good for them :) put them in the dryer for fluff :)
