I have a single breasted suit that is a dark brown with a pale blue stripe. I have thought about a patterned shirt but can't seem to find one, or should I go for a plain or stripe?

Always plain shirt with stripe suits. If it was a plain suit you could jazz it up a bit with a patterned shirt.

I would go for solid color - can you find one to match the pale blue stripe? Patterned shirt may clash with the stripes in the suit.

I wouldn't go for a shirt with any pattern on, it would look too much. Go for a nice plain shirt, something light to set the dark suit off. Hope this helps and good look shirt hunting.

Try lookn for a plain shirt the same or simliar colour to the stripe in the jacket. If cant get that white never fails!

a solid baby blue shirt would look sharp! I love pin-striped suits! Or, if you're still unsure, check out different clothing magazines and check out some of the pictures in there! Maybe you will find something similar that will give you some ideas!

the rule of thumb is that you shouldn't wear 3 types of stripes.. (e.g. pinstripes on jacket, striped tie and striped shirt)... It has always served me well.
I would go with a plain shirt in a muted colour.. you may prefer something brighter... this gives you the option of a fairly reserved look and also a striped or groovy looking tie.

i would wear a plain pale blue shirt as it matches the suit but remember to get the right shade of blue

Definately plain.
If you're a high fashion type you might get away with a bold, heavy striped shirt, but unless your 6 foot 2 with a David Beckam body I really wouldn't take the risk.
Plain shirt, ideally no tie ands open neck.
