i agree with with what people are saying, smack when absolutley needed,im a mum of 4,i hardly need to smack them,my daughter is very naughty she's 9,she can be very abusive & violent towards her brothers, who are much younger than herself,i warn her first then if she over steps the mark then she gets a smack on her bum, sometimes it works other time it doesnt,i do agree with smacking, but within moderation

I agree in some circumstances, but that guy with the bald head and glasses seriously needs to find an alternative source to get rid of his agression instead of bullying his children.

At first, I wasn't too keen on smacking children, but after watching the programme Super Nanny, I'm all for it. Some brats are just too out of control, and if that is what it takes to control them so be it. Obviously there is a very big difference between a smack, and beating the **** out of a kid. That I don't condone. But a smack in the backside once in a while is definately not bad. I have never been naughty in my childhood, but in my time smacks where quite common, and as far as I'm concerned it has not harmed anybody growing up.

I personally prefer other forms of punishment than smacking, I do not see what it achieves do we have to make our children feel pain for them to learn.
If it was a rat in a cage and we shocked it every time it did something we considered wrong people would be up in arms saying it was unethical, how much more should that apply to our children.
I am not saying i would never smack, if i am honest I smacked a friends child when they ran in front of a bus, a few years ago, but even that if I am honest was more out of fear for them than wanting to correct them. Did they learn anymore than they would of if I had used stern words I doubt it.
I think the question should be who are you smacking for? Is it to help your child develop and grow or to meet your own needs for justice and to show who is boss.
I would rather not smack but I don't think it should be totally out law-ed either.

i been smacked, it made of me a better person. i think there is a limit and it should be done only as a last resort with a kid who is not entire of an age to reason sensibly with. older kids you can communicate to effectively enough. i was brought up in a strict home. i dont resent that. i've come through school and university and i'm fairly well-disciplined in my own life. i'm a non-swearer (until i met my english husband who was never smacked) and i think a lot of the school kids i taught were not taught basic respect or discipline. i dont believe in smacking others' kids (i.e teachers on pupils) but i think parents ought to use their discretion because abuse aint right, but smacking just as a last resort is OKAY.

I smack very rarely, as I feel it is not an effective form of punishmebnt for my children.
The programme is shocking but I think they have picked some very extreme cases.

Just turned over to watch it!!!
I don't agree in smacking, there's other more affective ways to discipline a child i think.

I was belted quite severely as a kid by my father and my life has been tuned upside down by it, it makes you weiry of other people to the extent that you think they want to hurt you, and your enthuisiasm for things is very low and not only that...it sticks in your head and as you grow older you tend to rebel against the person ! me and my father have never seen eye to eye and he snaps at the slightest of things but as im older and bigger he darent raise his hand to me but all that he was then i understand more now and hate him for the fact of what he done to me and the way it's affected my life.....but then again i think every child needs a slap on the hand for doing something bad but not to the extent you were stripped to bare **** and belted with a big leather belt till you bled !!!!

NO the only time i ever hit one of my kids was when i freaked out because he ran in the road in front of a car and then call me a ***** for saving him. (He was 4 at the time) he is 27 now. if you hit a child you are teaching them that the way to get what they want or get done what they want is to use physical force. not something this world needs anymore of.
