I buy alot on Ebay and have had several bad experiences (Seller sent expired phone cards, broken items, seller took the money and never sent item etc.) I received very little to no help from Ebay or Paypal, plus I believe in many circumstances Paypal will charge $25 to dispute payment. However I have never lost a cent on Ebay. I ALWAYS pay by credit card through Paypal. When I have had a problem my credit card has always gotten the money back for me (they call it a chargeback and reverse the charge from the seller). Good luck!

My feedback score is 91, and i've only had one bad experience (as a seller). The person i had this experience with is now no longer a registered member of eBay; so; either eBay found them out or they got fed up of conning people. Don't however let certain peoples individual negative experiences put you off, i'm sure there are a lot more satisfied eBay users than disgruntled ones.

you will hear lots of people say its fine.
Here is what is wrong.
The sales site Own the finance exchange company, pay pal.
A conflict of interest.
Paypal are not a proper bank and are not governed by banking Consumer laws.
Any money you deposit they may take, or hold onto for months in desputes. Legally.
You cannot get hold of pay pal, or ebay, personally.
They give no proper correspondance addresses, and have no shop.
They only communicate via email.
They may not even respond.
There is no consumer protection.
It is only a small ads colum, on a global scale, with all the lack of security, and dealing with strangers, muggers, weirdo's, thieves and so on buying out the local paper would attract, but the paper has physical offices to complain to.
Pay pal has so much bad pess about litterally stealing peoples money indefinatly, and not running itself, as even a bank would, and we know how bad banks are.
The electronic system is open to fraud, and ebay ask and hold way to much personal and financial information, for simple small ads, all available online to hackers.
When theres nothing wrong people swear by ebay, when it goes wrong all they can do is swear at the computer, ebay, and paypal dont respond....and dont care.

I've had one bad experience and one unpleasant one out of about 25. There's always a risk but there are genuine people aswell, look at their feedback ratings, how long they've been registered etc. sometimes it's worth taking the risk for a great bargain but I've decided now I'd rather stick to the shops!

Ebay is ok.. you can get caught but it depends on how safe you are... just stick to ebay payments only.. dont go through personal emails or sales outside of ebay...

On 24 transactions I had a negative experience as I never receive the item..but the vendor gave me a full refund.

Beware of people advertising item of clothing as new and never worn as they not always are.

In general I would say it's quite safe as if someone try mess you about, he will get a negative feedback

If you are selling beware if someone asks to send to Nigeria.
They send you a bogus e-mail from paypal saying funds are held by paypal and will be released when you enter the shipping number for the goods.
Never send anything unless you know you have been paid.
I have bought and sold on e-bay for around 3 years and only had the one problem where a Nigerian tried to catch me - but he failed.

Yes you have to be careful when buying ,pay by paypal but most people are honest Check out their feedback ,read the details of payment and description of a item carefully. There are bargains out there.

Only a few non payers nothing too bad. The most risk is if you get a bogus email, making out it is from ebay, then it tells you to log in to your account, and your details get your account hijacked.

On 50 transactions I only had one bad experience. Pay with paypal with sellers > 1000 feedbacks and you'll be safe. NEVER PAY WITH WESTERN UNION.
