i dont understand that at all and it annoys me verymuch to have the black bars on the top and bottom of my tv when i watch dvds and there is no full screen option.

Full screen focuses on the center of the wide screen that was produced for the theater. They use pan and scan to move the focus to the sides, when action that is necessary to be seen is off center. That's why wide screen is better. Get used to the black bars, or get a better TV.

You're other option is having the images on the side chopped off so it will fit your screen. Live with it until you get a wide-screen TV.

movies are shot in widescreen because theaters have wide screens. if you watch a movie in full screen then you miss what is happening at the edges of the screen.

You may have to buy those DVDs that are formatted in widescreen

It is suited to its original format...movie screens. When it is fitted to fullscreen they have to suish it together to fit int a square format.

yeah...there are special DVDs that are formatted for widescreens....so you have to make sure you read the labeling and get the one that you want!

there's this button on your dvd player's remote called Zoom... if you dont wanna see everything that the director wanted to show on his film... just click on it and make the image format to the size you want it... simple as that...
