The best thing you can do is to call the finance company and make arrangements for payment and get the account put on hold.

Hiding the unit can bring on legal implications that you may not want to deal with. In my state as well as in other states it is a class C or B Felony depending on the value of the unit, if you hide the unit. It is "Withholding property from its rightful owner" so hiding the unit is some advice I would certainly not follow.

I have had 185 court cases this year over people withholding the unit from the finance company, they do take that very seriously, and I have seen people go to jail for it.

The only place you can legally put the unit is in a garage and keep the door shut. Make sure the garage is on your property or again you are hiding the unit. It does not have to be locked, just shut, and then do not move it, not even to go to the store, because most companies including mine have spotters.

They very well may sit and watch and wait for you to move the unit and then when you park it and walk into the store, you will come out to find yourself on foot. You can also put it behind a locked fence and hope that the company that has the contract is a legitimate one that will not cut the lock and take it anyway. I have seen companies in my area do that, and when it came right down to it, the company was believed that there was no lock on the gate, so that is kind of a hit and miss thing.

Has the Field Agent (repo person) made contact with you yet? Knocked on your door, left a card?

Under law we make field reports. These reports are sent directly to the finance company with complete remarks of what you may have said. The finance company takes these reports into consideration when making decisions to put accounts on hold. So lets say that the Field Agent goes to your door and you start cussing at him / her and tell them that you will hide the unit. That goes right to the finance company, who in turn will put an "bounty" on your car offering the driver an extra 200.00 to pick it up by Friday. The field Agent will give the spotter 100.00 to sit and watch for it to move, and they will have you before the days end. These reports are also used in court.

Do you have a second car? Block it in. They can not move a unit to get to another. BUT you have to keep it blocked in because if you don't, they will have it. So if the agent makes contact and the unit is blocked in tell him / her that you do not have access to the keys of the unit that is blocking their unit in. Tell them that their unit is not running and that the person who has the keys to the unit that has their unit blacked in is out of town for a couple of weeks, then ask the agent if he /she has time to run you to the store, because you are on foot. That always makes that lie sound better. BUT it did not come from me :)

I promise you that if you do not get the account put on hold they will have your unit, point blank. My company has a 99.3% success rate and in the 10 years I have owned this company we have had 0 surety bond taps, meaning we have never had a bad take. The odds are not in your favor.

Until you get this issue resolved CLEAN OUT YOUR UNIT! When they take it, they will have your property, unless you give them the keys, then they will allow you to clean it out. If they have to clean it out, it will cost you 50.00 and up to redeem your belongings.

That's the best I can tell you within the boundaries of the laws governing repossessions.

Try to get the account on hold. If you have never been late before, they will do this for you.

Good Luck!

All states have their own laws. Best bet is to call the loan company and work something out with them. Most only send the repo man as a last resort and if you can work with them maybe they will stop trying to take it.

They can not damage other property or harm people. If they can move other cars without causing damage, they will do so.

Hide it somewhere. If they can't find it then they can't take it back.
