Why is "Che" (cuban revolutionary) figure so popular? and what did he do?

Because he's got a cool logo using his image. But other than that, most people think he was a good guy looking out for the interests of the poor. People ignore or are not aware of the cold-blooded murders he committed for the sake of communism, including killing a boy at point-blank range.

He was a revolutionary! And, he rode around a lot on a motorcycle, too. Did you see the anti-che t-shirts? LOL

He was young, intelligent, good looking and a rebel...for most people, that's enough to designate him an idol and wear his face on a T-shirt while writing bad poetry in a cafe.

As a fighter, charisma was generally his best trait. He was defeated in many key battles and strongly advocated what today would be called "terrorist" tactics.

Perhaps most important, he was not American or European and as such became a folk-hero for outsiders and underdogs fighting (in real or imagined battles) against "the Man."
