It seems to be my day for admitting to shameful reading material.
There's a book by Nora Roberts which has actually brought tears to my eye when I read it. Every time I read it. I THINK it's Nora Roberts...
Anyway, it's about this girl whose name I've forgotten too but it starts with an R. She's orphaned and lives with her grandmother and nasty cousin. She's in love with another cousin, but he ends up marrying the nasty girl, who begins an affair with her biological father. She gets murdered, and "R" is initially thought to have done it. She and hunky cousin are estranged.
Later on, Granny is failing and sends R to find Hunk. She does, and in the way of romantic novels, he seduces her. She's so captive to his love that she does everything he says, lets herself be humiliated.
The whole time, it's clear that she's innocent and is being badly mistreated by everyone.
It's horribly corny, but I freely admit it's my box of kleenex book.

Rodrigo not only loved his wife and daughters with all of his heart.
He loved Spain, his country even more.
