Yes -- the UN has descended into utter fecklessness in its zeal to spend every waking moment of every day finding something else to accuse and condemn the U.S. and Israel for.

Sadly, yes. The UN was flawed from its creation, particularly regarding the Security Council. Giving the few members of that elite organization veto power, as well as too much power altogether created an instant disincentive for non security council nations to really participate. UN peacekeepers have rarely proven effective (Bosnia and Rwanda come to mind) except in places where the peace has already been established. UN resolutions cannot be enforced and thus automatically fail. The UN has been great for taking care of things like landmines and whale hunting. But regarding important issues, it has totally failed. Try to think of every war we've fought since the UN's creation. Has there ever been a clear, realistic debate and consensus about what to do? Have we ever been talked down from the brink by the UN? No; members simply sit and pontificate while situations grow worse. If the UN was an effective organization, we wouldn't have gone into Iraq, Darfur would be a non-issue, and relief for the 2005 tsunami would not have had to be coaxed out of member countries by Jan Egeland.

The UN does an excellent job with humanitarian aid, organizing crisis response, and promoting health and welfare in EVERY PLACE THAT THEY CAN. There are a lot of places where the UN cannot safely go, though they try. They provided aid to the Lebanese in the latest conflict, they send aid to Darfur, they organized support after the Indian Ocean tsunami.
As for any success in getting nations to make deals and get along with one another, they're about as successful as an arbitrator would be between Jesse Jackson and Rush Limbaugh. But that's not their fault, necessarily. Nations tend to act like grade-schoolers on the playground.

It was a pawn for the Russians and their murdering friends in Africa way back in the 60s. If possible, see if you can locate "The Fearful Master" , a small paperback distrubuted by the Birch Society and other anti-Communist groups back then.

100%, the only sauces it has is staying in operation despite the fact that it has not had one sauces.
The UN is a corrupt debating society for elitist despots and I am getting tired of paying for their US bashing and anti semitism with my hard earned money. If that makes me a backward redneck so be it.

It has become a completely dysfunctional organization.
Our local paper carries a conservative cartoon called "Mallard Fillmore". Yesterday's episode featured Kofi Annan standing over a toilet with a plunger saying "Ok, for the 374th time I'm warning you...."
