He was three months yesterday and hes started chewing his hands and fingers. Is it alright to let him do it? I think he might be teething but I think he might be a bit small yet, he's not hungry and when I put the dummy in his mouth he just sucks it for a minute or two and spits it back out.

Is it ok for him to chew his fingers or should I stop him from doing it? He still cant pick things up so I cant give him a teething chewer thing yet.

Thanks!!

It really won't hurt anything. I am assuming since he is chewing his fingers that you haven't given him a pacifier. If that is the case, the only thing you should think about is later on when it is necessary to break the habit. You can take a pacifier away but you can't take away fingers.

It is very normal for babies to put their fingers in their mouth. Sucking gives them comfort and soothes them. It would be pointless to try and stop him because it is a natural reaction at this point and he will just keep doing it.

My 3 mo old does the same thing, hes been sucking on his hands for a long time now. He perfers to suck on his thumb, not a pacifier. My son is actually teething, i can feel a tooth on his bottom gums.. Just rub your fingers on his gums and if you feel something hard it's a tooth coming up. That doesn't necessarily mean he's gonna have teeth anytime soon, but they're just starting to come in. Babies start teething about 4 mo (atleast that's what my little book told me). So, he could be teething a little bit. I tried giving mine a teether too, he'll stick it in his mouth for a little bit, but then he doesn't want it. It's all normal, he just perfers is hands, that's all.

Let him chew his fingers and hands theres nothing wrong with it. My baby does it all the time. I first thought she was hungry but she just likes to do it. Don't listen to stupid answers like they'll have buck teeth and all of that. They say that about everything.

he'll be trying his feet in his mouth soon too...it is perfectly normal for a developing mind and body...now if he's removing fingers and leaving bloody stumps I'd worry. Also babies tend to put their hands in their mouths when they are HUNGRY and just because.

Pacifiers are the worst thing anyone can ever give to a child to suck on (short of poison). He clearly hates its so be thrilled he won't be addicted to it like some 7 year olds with enabling parents who think it's cute!

At this age it is ok to let him chew his fingers. A baby's first toy is his or her hands. They learn all about them by sucking and biting on them. All he is doing is exploring. So let him have this time to explore his hands and learn all about them. Plus he is at the age when everything he sees goes in the mouth. Thats just how babies learn.

In mother hood you always go with your gut...it sound like you are Ok with him chewing his fingers so let him if he is not causing himself any harm.......trust yourself.

Now my little boy would scratch his face so we put mitts on his hands....that's a option if you later decide to stop your little boy from chewing his fingers. Hey my motto is if their still safe and sound and healthy it was the right decision.

Yes, it is perfectly normal for him to do this sort of thing. You don't need to restrain him until his baby teeth come in because they might get injured by the fingersucking at that point.

He is fine. My kids did that, my now 7 month old did that since 2 months. I bet he isn't teething, he has just learned he has these cool toys called hands. It will just get worse..LOL. It will not hurt him though, infact, its normal. Good luck hon!

When he gets his arms chewed off up to the elbows you better tell him to stop. Self-cannibalization is not such a good idea.
