Why is it called the birds and the bees?

Because when my mom told me about "the birds and the bees" it had nothing to do with birds or bees.

i think because birds do it and so do bees.

bees = men
women = birds

birds stay at home and collect food and take care of their young (stereotypical woman)

men go polinate flowers like bee's do (flower commonly referred to as a woman's vagina)
