With such easily available news on TV, radio etc and the printed media chasing readers with gossip and scandal, can they survive as an inky and energy-guzzling alternative to their competitors?

Print media will survive as long as there are advertisers. Newspapers are the most cost effective way to get ads in front of potential customers.

I can't picture paper madia in the future, I think displays and audio will replace them. User-interactive types, because these can be taken at the user's own pace unlike television has done traditionally. Having said that, newspapers are useful for cleaning shoes on, as tablecloths in communal areas, all sorts. Especially the football pages, these I make proper use of and never read.

I think there day in the sun is over, but I believe newspapers will still be around for a few more decades, at least. The reason, it has become apart of people's lives too much. Plus they got coupons, hehehe

newspapers will all ways be in huge demand,its like a ritual you get up in the morning,go to work buy the papers,even on a Sunday you buy papers,even if you seen the news on TV you still buy the papers,we all know that the newspapers carry yesterdays news,but we still buy the papers,newspapers are definitely not on the way out.

News in general has become someones opinion not based on fact, twisted for political reasons always read between the lines

t.v. and the net - speeder than the newspaper.
but the newspaper will survive just to bring us opinion.
the t.v. and the net can bring opinion too - but it will be more superficial and more commercial.
