I noticed that American, The Beautiful is being played at some sporting events instead of The Star Spangled Banner? I thought I remembered during Gulf War I, someone saying something about not playing The Star Spangled Banner at sporting events while we are at war. Does anyone else remember or know of this?

If there is, I can't find any.

Here is what I did find.

Title 36, United States Code (USC), Chapter 10
As amended by Public Law 344, 94th Congress
Approved July 7, 1976

§ 170. National Anthem; Star-Spangled Banner

The composition consisting of the words and music known as The Star-Spangled Banner is designated the national anthem of the United States of America.
§ 171. Conduct during playing

During rendition of the national anthem when the flag is displayed, all present except those in uniform should stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. Men not in uniform should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart. Persons in uniform should render the military salute at the first note of the anthem and retain this position until the last note. When the flag is not displayed, those present should face toward the music and act in the same manner they would if the flag were displayed there.

and that is all I could find. It appears the answer is "no."

That's crap.
Sometimes other songs are sung for a lot of reasons. Lot's of times it's simply because The Star Spangled Banner is so damn hard to sing and not too many people know the words anymore.
Think of Kate Smith - God Bless America - the Philadelphia Flyers. When she sang in person they NEVER lost.
We actually sing "O Canada" at ours, in addition to whatever U.S. one they go with.
I personally don't care - as long as people participate respectfully.

. Don't know why stadiums have gotten away from our national anthem. I think America the Beautiful is a beautiful reflection of our country.

It's just that America the Beautiful is easier to sing
