Anyone who says he helped Venezuela is lying.
He takes in billions of oil money. The poor don't benefit from it.
Over 50% of the people live in severe poverty.
Their government has always been corrupt. And still is, even more.
Chavez is giving away millions to support communism in other countries, but his people don't get any.

I'll provide you with some data available from the CIA Worldfactbook that might give you insight into Chavez's role in Venezuela. In 1997 just prior to his taking office Venezuela's GDP was $93 billion, in 2005 that number was $163 billion. What's odd is the growth in the non-oil sector has outstripped the oil sector by 2 to 1. Poverty rates declined from 60.94% in 1997 to 37.9% in 2005. Whatever label you give the man results speak louder than words. As to his recent performance at the UN everyone should listen to his entire speech, not just selected clips wrapped in hysterical context provided by the mainstream media. All 190 nations outside the US, UK and Israel have declared their support for Chavez. I was amazed at his display of the Noam Chomsky book; Chomsky is an American and is considered worldwide to be one of the greatest intellectuals alive. Chomsky is one of the most thorough critics and documenter of the abuse of US government power over the past 40 years.
If you really want to understand the universe around get your hands on anything by Chomsky; he despises the Democrats just as much as the Republicans

Helped! and "birdsnake douchbag" does not know what it is talking about. I have been to Venezuela (last year) and the poor and under privileged of this country for the first time have a sense of pride and hope. Something the poor and underprivileged of this country cannot attest to. They have more schools and hospitals and the oil profits are whats making this happen. I will bet that birdshit has not been there and solely relies on fox news propaganda for a source. moron.

You people are too much. You're only TOO happy to point out what Chavez did, but turn a blind eye to everything BUSH has done. It's your arrogantly thinking that as long as WE do it, it's ok, that has lost us international respect. There is a thing called ETHICS. Both you and your boy Bush have forgotten all about it. There is NOTHING good, American, or patriotic about OPPRESSION, whether it be over other countries, or our own citizens. You listen to Bush's words, but ignore that fact that everthing he's DOING is quite the opposite.
What a bunch of biggots.

Hugo Chavez has never helped Venezuela, he is a murder and a liar, but a great talker, who has convinced a lot of people that he has nothing but good intentions, for America and its people. Not including our President of course.
Sometime you take a real close look on how well he treats his own people, maybe you think you would like it there, "Wrong"!
You have freedom in America, you have nothing in Venezuela.
Check it out for yourselves listen to know one.

helped.
Chavez's campaign promises included mass vaccinations, food distribution in slum areas, and improved education, all of which he has achieved.
I know it's difficult for us Americans to fathom a politician who kept his campaign promises, but he did.
Chávez's domestic policy relies heavily on the "Bolivarian Missions." The "Bolivarian Missions" have entailed the launching of massive government anti-poverty initiatives, the construction of thousands of free medical clinics for the poor, the institution of educational campaigns that have reportedly made more than one million adult Venezuelans literate, and the enactment of food and housing subsidies. There have been marked improvements in the infant mortality rate between 1998 and 2006.
The Missions have overseen widespread experimentation in what Chávez supporters term citizen- and worker-managed governance, as well as the granting of thousands of free land titles, reportedly to formerly landless poor and indigenous communities. Several allegedly unused estates and factories have been expropriated to provide this land.
All of this has been paid for by oil revenues.

I don't think he cares. Venezuela is a country full of persons who are starving. It is rich in oil. So why is this countries residence starving? Bad leadership. That could be a very good reason.
