It seems the U.N. does little for world issues, especially in recent years with Iran for instance. It seems to be a joke that gets nothing accomplished. Is it about time the United States gets out? If so or not why?

Yes we should get out and get the U.N. out of America. They have been corrupt for years. They do alot of talking but nothing gets done.
The U.S. taxpayers fund 1/3 of the total budget of the U.N.
Why pay for a stage for dictators to insult our president?
They both received tremendous applause for their slanderous retoric from other American hating diplomats.

the U.N is a peace organization its not always easy to get country's to listen all the time and if you think about it the U.N doesn't have a military to enforce it they only go to protect a nation not to attack others. and the USA is one of the 5 core members of the UN so where kinda a permanent member.

The UN has never succeeded in accomplishing a mission. They issue proclamations and don't back them up. It is completely corrupt and should be removed from the US. Move to it Venezuela or Haiti.

YES!!!! We should outlaw the UN and get out of it. It is nothing but a Anti-american organization with spies and
enemies of this country. It has done absolutely nothing for world peace or anything else.

the US runs the UN (and World Bank and International Monetary Fund and the agenda of the G8). you owe it over $1 billion. the UN sticks its nose into iran and iraq at US behest but allows the US sites to go uninspected. and yet, despite the fact that the present US administration is unilateralist (look at Kyoto treaty, look at ICC) you still think the UN doesn't do enough for you.
it's a joke.
if you lived in any other country of the world and weren't deluged by your rabid media every day, you'd understand.
as it is, you probably have hardly ever been abroad, don't know any foreigners, can't speak a foreign langauge and have no knowledge of world affairs/history. that's why you are so ignorant.

I agree, the UN has become a joke. But - I am an optimist and I think maybe with some strong leadership, It can become functional. Besides, is there an alternative??

The UN accomplishes many things that it would cost us far more to do on our own than share the cost with other countries. It's cheap labor. If you still think we should get out and stop paying, ask yourself this......why does the republican congress and Bushrubberstamp keep paying?

We haven't paid UN dues in decades. About the only thing we do is let them use a building in New York. We do what we want anyway.

NOI!!!!! We need to remove Bush and his pet walrus from the U.N. We should support the U. N. in it's duties to the world.
