I wished the worst on my chem teacher. Like I hoped he died in a car wreck etc..... but now Im taking it back.
Two days ago a professor from the math and science department from our university dropped dead of a heart attack before class. Wow I remember seeing this guy almost every other lab day. Never took a class from him but he seemed like a nice guy. So now Im kinda paranoid besides Im doing quite a bit better in this class. Anyway I was just wondering how it worked if your teacher dies suddenly in the middle of a semester, do they just drop that class for the semester or they immediately find a replacement? How do they tell the students what happened? Do they wait until the students show up in class the next day and say "Sorry guys your teacher died yesterday?" Just wondering.

They would probably find a replacement (either another prof or maybe a qualified graduate student if necessary). I imagine you would be notified by email, first on a campus-wide email that notifies you of the professor's passing, and then an email from the department letting you know the plans. I wouldn't know for sure though; fortunately I've never had an instructor pass away in the middle of a course (and I sincerely hope it never happens).

I would assume they would have an equivilant of a substitute teacher take over the class for the remainder of the semester. As for how students are notified? Probably mass email notice as well as notifying them next class.

youre human... you have a conscience...even if you dont apologize to the chem professor ...at least apologize for yourself and truly mean it...in the future just be careful what you wish for...you might get the results youre looking for but not WHERE youre looking for them and btw they may cancel one class but theyll find a sub...i cant imagine the univ going thru the cost of reimbursing for tuition
