You are yawning because of a lack of oxygen in the blood and this is the bodies natural way of getting it there the quickest. The reason why we start yawning when someone else does has never been scientifically proven beyon a doubt but the widespread belief is that we do it because our body fears that there might not be enough oxygen in the room as someone else is displaying these signs so we yawn to keep ourselves alive!

Its a psychological thing. You can get your dog to yawn by yawning at your dog too. You can have a yawning festival.
Nobody knows really why you yawn. It's one of those mysteries...

How Cues and Programming Work in Mind Control and Propaganda
Many triggers or cues are innate. An example of a trigger or cue could be a hot feeling when going near an oven burner. Almost instinctively, a person would pull their hand away from the burner. This would be an unconditioned response. There are conditioned and unconditioned triggers or stimuli and conditioned or unconditioned responses. Pavlovian classical conditioning involves pairing an unconditioned stimuli with a conditioned stimuli to get a conditioned response.

When you yawn it is due to lack of oxygen, therefore if you have lack of oxygen it is likely they will be suffering from it also.

it is because yawning equalises pressure in your head, and when you do that you are unbalancing the pressure in the heads of people around you, which is why they have to yawn to re-equalise.
