I don't think this will reduce the rate of pedophillia. It is not the same as drug use as it should be classified a mental illness and land someone in a mental hospital not in jail. It is true that many other industrial countries have a lower age of consent (most have it set to 16) and the lowering was based on the fact that young people are maturing faster and are more capable of these choices than past times. We in the United STates seem to forget that, in the early days of our republic young women were married off at the ripe old age of 13 and expected to be housewives and mothers. I am in no way condoning that but I do think there would be room to consider a change in the age of consent (BTW is everyone aware that the age of sexual consent in most states is already 16 and that the problem comes when the partner is x number of years older than they are (regardless of gender). I also think we need to institute some form of control over the number one preditor hotspot in America, the Internet.
In the end, if a youth wants to do something they will do it. If the adult choses to do it they must live with all the consequences. I do believe that there has to be some form of judicial leeway in convictions and sentencing based on the entire cases circumstance (best example is the 15 or 16 year old girl with the 17 or 18 year old boy )
Anyways..we are a nation fixated on ages. Vote = 18, Drink = 21, draft age = 18.....what does this say about us as a nation?

Instead of doing such a stupid and irresponsible thing, I would strongly suggest that all those who commit a serious sexual offense against a child under the age of 10 should be killed by lethal injection, gas, electricity or by hanging. I have advocated this for many years now and I have watched as the problem got worse year on year. The damage these perverts do to especially girls lives, and boys to a lesser extent cannot be condoned, excused, or accepted in any way. If any animal did what these paedophiles do, they would be immediately destroyed. These perverts are no better. They are incurable and cannot see any harm in what they do.

To reduce what? I'll make it easy for you. Just say "child porn." And no, we shouldn't because there's a big difference between child pornography and drugs. With child porn, the victim may be emotionally traumatized for life against his/her will, while with drugs, it's their own choice if they want to screw up their lives. Also, most drug offenses are done by people well over 18.
I agree with your statement on legalizing drugs, since Jamaica also has the lowest crime rates in the world. And more food for thought, Japan has the lowest sexual assault rates in the world and it's all due to their lax censorship in things like anime.

Okay...and explain to me exactly how that would make sense? What are you proposing the sexual consent age be reduced to? I mean, I can somewhat understand from the standpoint of teenage lovers where these boys end up labeled as a predator for life because her parents found out they were screwing and didn't approve...all that good stuff..but beyond that, I see no good whatsoever coming out of your suggestion.

WHAT!!! YOU DUMB F*CK!!!
Pedophilia is a crime. It makes a child a victim. It doesn't matter if we lower the age. That child will still feel abused. The only person that it will help are the sick child rapists. The child will still feel the pain no matter what "law" happens to say they are old enough to be molested.
Good grief. I wonder how some people come up with this stuff.

No.
Pedophilia is a mental disorder in which adults are sexually attracted to children, reducing the age of consent will not stop the disorder, nor will it help the children who are young to really make those kinds of decisions.

If we abolish all laws, that will eliminate crime because there will be no laws to break! Let's do it!
But seriously, no. A lot of people even over the current age of consent don't know what they're doing regarding sex.

Duh of course. The age of consent in some US states is 16. Thailand just reduced it to 14. 14 and 16 year old girls are no longer the flat chested little innoncent girls playing hop scotch with pig tails. They now wear thong underwear, if any and super tiny bottoms and tops showing off their butts and size 30+ boobs.
Most of the women who complain the loudest about older men and younger girls are of course "cougars" and women that men wouldn't date anyway.

not the same drugs is the people's choice and crime is also. the people that take a child's life and screw it up should never be put into law, what these freaks need is to be put away for life and never be let out to harm kids anymore...THINK ABOUT IT...

At the legal age it is now people still aren't mature enough or appreciate the huge responsiblity that comes with sex. Hell they ought to raise the age!
