Because racism was a popular and socially accepted thing in the PAST. Lest you forget that democratic President Kennedy intervened when Alabama Governor George Wallace blocked the doorway to the University of Alabama to stop two black students, Vivian Malone and James Hood, from enrolling.
I guess selective memory just makes it more convenient.

Democrats were originally conservative until the late 40s but changed roles as history went on. They eventually came known to adopt more liberal views. The KKK itself is staunching conservative.
So the question shouldn't be "why the Democrats funded KKK"
It should be rather "why conservatives funded the KKK ?"

The democrats were traditionally racist southern planters and farmers. Remember, the Democrats, until Roosevelt, were traditionally very conservative. The Republicans were far more progressive back when the KKK was founded. Lincoln freed the slaves and he was a Republican.

I read the whole article, I didn't see where Democrats funded
them. Back in the day, some displaced Dems joined them,
but let's face the truth, it's the extreme right that are racists.
Anti-black, anti-poor, anti-senior citizens, anti-gay - you know
