No, I believe its a huge problem in society today, and that it causes even bigger problems for the celebrities themselves and for the people reading the magazines. We as a country are much too obsessed with weigth and the magazines promote it in a huge way. I myself suffered from both anorexia and bulimia and was hospitalized for awhile, so I feel really strongly about this. Also there are many pro-Ana websites on the internet, which give young girls tips on how to lose the most weight and burn more calories. These websites should be stopped, because of the damage they do to young girls self image. They provide goal pictures of dying anorexic girls as a "help" to girls trying to lose as much weight as possible. It is really very sad and I hope people will come to realize this and begin to make changes around the country and world.

These magazines are hypocrites. On one page they warn about dangers of being thin with a picture of Nicole Richie and next page there is Victoria Beckham, worshipped as ever or a story on somebody going from size 12 to size 8. (What's wrong with size 12 I'd like to know.) And in every issue you get diet tips. Stop this skinny obsession before it's too late!

For young impressionable girls this is a problem.
Parents shouldn't allow girls to become so obsessed with them either.
My daughter was on this Paris Hilton thing last year, she idolized her. I saw the danger in that, not so much the thin thing, but the money thing, SO when the E channel (I think) aired their newest show where they have to be housewives, I made sure she watched.
Nicole couldnt even turn off a vaccuum. Neither had any idea how to shop like a normal person, they could not care for a child for even 20 minutes without some major sh*t going on, now I realize this is for entertainment too.
I asked her, what would happen to these girls if suddenly the fortune they live off of, not worked for, disappeared....who is better off, you or them?
The thin thing, ew, they just look sick to me, they look actually sick.
Thank God I am not a celeb!

I have noticed lately that most magazines are showing concerns for the likes of Lindsay Lohan and Nicole Richie. Most things I have read about Nicole Richie have been about her needing to eat more. Times are changing (I hope) and with the Milan catwalks pulling the plug on skinny models who knows, it might one day be the rage to be a size 14. Curves are back, at last!

Actually, I don't know where to stand. I see where you're coming from but no need to ruin their career so much by just denying pictures of them to their fans-b/c of the stage their going through. It's not right that americans place so much on diet but it happens. I think though that they should not speak highly of it though- bag of bones or unhealthily thick. They should comment on the dress or their role and move on without approval.
I personally want to see more true beauty models. Those with out the typical "requirements" of stereotypical beauty. I've seen some "flawed" girls out there that I think are pretty and they don't resemble the girls in my magazines and that's a shame.
P.S. but I do agree that nervosa issues shouldn't be an image to live up to.

i don't like the way they show these people are good-looking and say their size is 'normal'. i think its inevitable that young people will want to be like them, so i think magazines should not print pictures of them. however i do feel for these celebs, because they are under constant pressure and those who are even as small as a size 10 are called 'curvy', but at the same time, if they don't like the press following them all the time why are they celebs?
I don't think weight should have an impact on whether a person is considered beautiful. i think the most attractive features in a person is their confidence and whether they are 'happy and healthy.' I hope this answers your question, love Liz :D

Anorexia developes from a feeling of no conrol over one's life. It has to do with one's own perception of self. I don't think it comes from looking at these pictures. Anorexia hurts the person not others. They look at others as fine or perfect but they look at themselves differently. I don't think you could find one person who has anorexia that will tell you they are the way they are because of the pictures in magazines.
Females have self esteem issuses from trying to be or look like thses pictures. Not everyone can be 5'10" and 120 lbs. Females should look in the mirror everyday and know they are beautiful and attractive just they way they are. Alot of males find "plumper" or "thick" or "meat on the bones" more attractive than skin and bones.

Without all these celebrity bloopers, etc, magazines wouldn't exist, because lets face it we buy them just to read gossip about them and look a their pictures, in some cases they are downfalls for them and in others their not.
People like Nicole Ritchie, do not really have friends, as a true friend would tell her how dreadful she actually looks, no-one will tell her because she's famous.
I feel really sorry for these people, they might be rich, but really some of them have no common sense.
