It could possible get infected, but that's the worst that could happen. Some turtles do carry diseases, but they're passed on through contact with turtle poop.

From any animal bite, you are at risk for infection. Keep in mind that bacteria are everywhere including in the water your turtle swims in so you could get an infection if the bite breaks the skin. The turtle's mouth has bacteria in it.

The big disease you can catch from turtles is salmonella. usually people get infected by getting the bacteria on their hands and then touching their mouth or touching food. Salmonella gives people stomach cramps and diarrhea. Some people just get sick for a day or so but in some cases you could end up in the hospital! Reptile vets will tell you that 85% of pet turtles are asymptomatic carriers of salmonella. This means that the turtle is not sick but his feces have the bacteria in it tha can make you sick. Keep in mind that salmonella can live on a dry surface for thirty months and be capable of making you sick. For this reason, don't allow your turtle to run through the house and always wash your hands really well after handling him! The salmonella in his feces can be tracked around on his feet or be in his swimming water.

You can get salmonella or other food poisoning from ANY contact with water soiled by fecal material, like that in a turtle cage.

Wash it well, and treat as you would any other small injury. Remember, you should wash your hands after handling your turtle anyway!

It's not the bite that can give you the disease, It's the turtles skin itself. Salmonella is present in the turtle.

yes, that's why they don't sell turtles anymore in the pet dept like they use to. It is a form of salmonella I believe .

Yes. All reptiles secrete salmonella from their skin and in their mouths. (So I was told by our veterinarian, we have a small box turtle)
