I believe that they were the NHL franchise which is now the New Jersey Devils.

It was hockey. They made the playoffs only once, in the 1977-78 NHL season, losing 2 games to none to the Philadelphia Flyers in the first round.
Don Cherry was head coach for a season, and Lanny McDonold and Rob Ramage were a couple of notable players.
The Franchise originally was the Kansas City Scouts, and is now the New Jersey Devils.

They were a hockey team in the NHL. They came to Colorado from Kansas City and moved to New Jersey afterward to become the Devils.
