You are old enough that you should be able to go with your friends, but this is something you will have to work out with your parents. Remind them that you are growing up and want to have fun of a more mature kind. Ask for a camcorder and film the whole thing if they are worried you'll do something stupid. They'll see you're just having good, clean fun and let up in future years and you'll have the memories on tape.

Honestly, it depends on a few things...

1. Your age. If you're under 12, I would have a bit of trouble letting you go with your friends.
2. The neighborhood. If you're in a well-lit area with lots of homes of friends, that's different than going out to a few houses in the country.
3. Your friends. Make sure that trick-or-treating is the only thing they want to do. It sounds "dumb," but you need to make sure they don't do anything bad.

Personally, I always had fun trick-or-treating with my parents. We (and my little sister) got dressed up, went out to family and friends, and had a ball. My dad always dressed as a hobo, and loved to tease little kids.

I think it boils down to where you'll have more fun... but I like the advice of doing both. Go with your friend when the "neighborhood" Halloween hours are going on, and go with your family to visit other family.

Enjoy! And be scarey!!!

How about both? I walk with my kids but not to the door..I stay on the street and then continue walking with them. I would do what you want this year since 13 is pretty much the trick or treating age limit.

Well, I had to go trick-or-treating with my parents until I was nine years old, and fun as it was, the past times I have been trick-or-treating with friends was very, very fun. You spend time with your parents a lot, (i assume) so don't feel bad when tempted to indulge.

What do your parents say? Ask them for permission first. Maybe just have your friend come with your family for your tradition part, then you two can go on your way by yourself.

Remember to bring a flashlight.

just say u wanna start trick-or-treating with your friends.
I mean, I started tick-or-treating with my friends when I was 8.
if your parents don't let u, then say they're a lot of people around so nothing could happen to u.
good luck. and grab the chocolate!

How old are you? If your parents want to go with you I would say you are not old enough to go with your friend.

From a parents point of view......there are a lot of ways you can get into trouble out there that you will never ever see coming.

Go with your parents until they get tired of going with you. You won't be sorry this way.

Don't think about your parents or your friends feelings. What do you really want to do? If you choose your parents your friend just has to understand it's a tradition and you don't want to change it. If you choose your friend your parents need to understand that you are growing up and things change, you can't be their baby forever.

Have your parents ask your friend's parents so they could make arrangements on who would take the group of both sets of kids.
