I've actually gotten some really great deals off of ebay. I am certainly not dumb. Your question however is fairly dumb.

keep in mind that bidding on an auction is very similar to gambling. you may say to yourself that I'll only pay X amount for this item or whatever. as the auction continues you see people outbidding you. eventually you get to the point where, hey it's only a couple bucks more than what I was planning on spending so why not. finally you get to the point where you have though SO much about the auction that now you cannot lose it and will bid high enough in order to win it. usually, after you have won the item, the buyers remorse sets in and then you realize you overpaid for this item. but most people on ebay are idiots. smart people know where to look for deals and when to stop. my favorites were when the XBOX 360's were coming out and people were paying like $1500 dollars for them! idiots, pure and simple idiots.

E-bay is best used to obtain hard to get items. Like 3,000 year old books. Or one pound rubies or even 1/8 of Purto Rico. My friend got a Game boy DS lite for 30 dollars.

If they are paying too much, yeah they are stupid. I think of it as an internet garage sale, and will not pay more than I would at a garage sale. I will only purchase new items if I can not locate them anywhere else, or if it is really a good deal. I guess I'm not stupid, but I'm not most people.

I shop on Ebay, but look for the best deals..that's what Ebay is for to me...to find things cheaper than retail or on occasion to find things they no longer sell in the stores...then you may have to buy it for a lilttle more than what is was originally retail...

I agree. I always check other prices too. Many folks just don't know. Also, sometimes the shipping alone is extortion.

true, but americans are too lazy to get in the car, drive across town, and walk around the store. consequently, many are willing to pay the extra just to have it delivered to thier doors.

A lot of crap never gets bought -- for the people who do, they're not necessarily dumb, and they've learned their lesson probably.
