If I have an e-commerce website and I'm a registered business, do I need to trademark my business name? Or does that only apply if you have a certain style or design associated with the name?

You can register a business name. Contact your state attorney generals office to get the details. Each state/province has different laws regarding the matter.
Trade marks can be registered. They protect names or slogans or distinctive designs (e.g. like the distinctive Coke bottle). T. M. protect namens etc. that denote your distinctive product or service. They must be distinctive to the specific manufacturer or service provider. They protect against other trade marks ythat are confusing with yours. The Federal trade marks office is a federal law matter (e.g. the U.S. Lanham act). Google "u.s. trade Marks office" site and read their material on trade marks. That will give you the basics about trade marks and their registration. It would take at least 30 pages here to convey that information.at a basic level.

If the name of the company is the common spelling of the name or words then it's difficult to protect your name. If you change it to a unique spelling or format, then you can patent the name as a logo. Take example from "toys are us". They used an inverted "R" and, the name became a logo that can't be used by anyone else.
your designs are very unique. I checked out your site. Use your obvious talents and come up with a great one-of-a-kind logo for a name and patent it.

Using the name in business and commerce automatically establishes your rights. If you're concerned about it, I would register it to make yourself feel better. It's not that expensive. If you don't, you should save any dated advertisements or newspapers showing it in use. You could use that to prove when you started using it if someone disputed your right to use it.

It applies to the name, mark, or name and mark in combination.
