Short answer: Yes.
Long answer: not all rap music encourages risky behavior.
I like Rock and Heavy Metal and guess what?...it also encourages violence and the sale and even use of drugs.
so all music has its artists who go in that direction.
some encourages devil worship, (the existance of the devil is irrelevant becuase the fact is some people have been known to even kill in sacrifices).
so yes there is some rap that encurages violence and drug sales, but that can be said about rock, metal, oldies, motown, etc...

I think like other entertainment mediums, rap has the potential to "glamorize" some aspects of behavior and make that behavior appear more acceptable than is actually the case. To impressionable children who accept this depiction as acceptable or desirable, it does a disservice to society. Drugs and violence have consequences to the individual and to society. Rap songs don't provide that dimension so some individuals may choose to believe that drugs or violence are acceptable behaviors.
So, to answer your question, rap music may provide encouragement for violence and the sale of drugs if the listener doesn't have the "grounding" to view the music as purely entertainment.

Rap music does not encourage violence or drug sales or usage. It tells about how someone has lived, the feelings they have about something, or just something catchy to make money.
Every type of music that has evolved through the years was criticized for some reason. And not everyone likes all music. Music is as diverse and people are.
Rock and Roll, when it first hit the scene, was looked apon as a very sinful music that promoted sex. Did people have sex because the Rock and Roll music made you move and dance in a new way? NO, people were already having sex.
Elvis was not shown from the waist down when he first hit the TV because his swishing of his hips was too sexual. People were already swishing their hips before Elvis did. He didn't make that up on his own. People liked his music because they could relate to it. It did not enourage anything just like rap does not enourage
Country music does not enourage leaving your spouse or getting drunk or getting into bar fights. People relate to the songs because these things have happened in their life or they like the tune. It gives them a certain feeling.
No Rap is not all peaches and cream. It is very hard core because the people who listen to it are hard core. There are different types of Rap. Someone who listens to Rap doesn't like all of it. They have their favorite Artists or beats or styles.
It is a form of expression that people have relate to just like all music. That is why we have so many different types of music.

i think of like different entertainment mediums, rap has the aptitude to "glamorize" some aspects of habit and make that habit seem extra perfect than is actual the case. To impressionable babies who settle for this depiction as perfect or appropriate, it does a disservice to society. drugs and violence have outcomes to the guy and to society. Rap songs do no longer furnish that length so some persons would want to have faith that drugs or violence are perfect behaviors. So, to respond to your question, rap track would furnish encouragement for violence and the sale of drugs if the listener would not have the "grounding" to view the track as purely entertainment.

Some does, some does not. Just like any type of music there is good and bad.
Does country music promote drinking and violence? It seems many of them are about getting drunk and doing violent things. But of course it is not all that way, it just seems like it because I don't like the music.
There is alot of socially conscious rap and hip-hop but if you don't listen to that kind of music you'll never find the good stuff because tha bad boys seem to get the attention.

No, that stuff would happen whether those kids listen to rap or not. Saying that 50 Cent encourages people to be gangsters and junkies is like saying that The Misfits encourage people to be zombies and aliens.

got no right to make such jugements, however, from my point of view itz mostly youngsters in "banlieues" who`ll be influenced by certain words or statements on violence found in rap koz they find in rap a way to voice out certain of their probs..therefore rap is involved INDIRECTLY in overuse of violence,..sorry,got no idea for the sale of drugs..and sorry too for the bad spelling dear.

Rap influences the sale of drugs and violence because it is an art off the street.
Personally, I don't like rap..I'll just stick to rock and heavy metal. :]
