He doesn't know how to answer a direct question

He is a 12th Imamist, before anything else. (See link below)

He is a devout Muslim who believes the world SHOULD be altered in such a way as to welcome the coming of the 12th Imam or Mahdi. His beliefs and policies and rhetoric are internally challenged by Rafsanjani and likely other members of the ruling clerical elite, although at least 4 are Hojjatiehs (those who seek the return of the 12th Imam). Even the Ayatollah Khomeini abolished this group early on in his regime for they did not support the revolution by claiming an Islamic republic would hinder the return of the 12th Imam.

There is something oddly zealous about Ahmadinejad, and his bluster may just be that (while under the powerful thumb of the ruling clerics in reality), or it may be a calculated bid to arm Iran to sufficiently destroy or significantly damage Israel, and thereby bring the expected global polarity around Jews/Christians and Muslims into a conflagration of massive proportions (i.e., a REAL war, where Americans are drafted, trained and shipped off to theaters of war where casualty rates would be MUCH higher than in Iraq or Afghanistan).

Ahmadinejad, if he were a man of peace, would not buy time for his nuclear program to pace ahead against all global calls for cessation. He'd at least cooperate with the one request (halting of fissile material development) until he could hear the EU/UN out on terms (which have been provided to him, with no concrete response).

I don't believe men like Ahmadinejad, Chavez, Morales, Castro, Kim are legitimate heads of state with any responsibility to their people, but more like installed dictators who respond to their own whim, or to the elite religious or military sponsors who put them in place.

This is a dangerous gambit we take, in listening to a man and his demands, when they come from an apocalyptic political, religious and military perspective. If he seeks to initiate a global war, what can we think of this person?

Years ago Oliver North said Osama bin Laden was the most dangerous threat to America. History proved him right, up through 9/11. Ahmadinejad has taken over that position.

Saddam had the fourth largest standing army in the world and was clearly a major threat to the middle east, but at least he wasn't a religious fanatic who wanted to kill all non-Muslims.

I actually think he sounded intelligible. He seems to be knowing what he is saying, unlike Chavez. If you listen closely, he seems to know alot more about the history of things that have happened and where he wants to take his country. Though most of what he believes is bias.

Some of the things that he say might seem like he is a loose canon, but I think some of it has to do with the translation. I think we need to look closer at the situation to see if we can find ways to work things out with Iran. Though I initially supported the war in Iraq. I am now convinced that war with Iran is definitely something that will not benefit us. And will definitely hurt us more in the long term.

Hard to form a clear picture of him.. Suspect he is talking for the religious leader who is the power in Iran. There is only hints of politics and religion in what he says. Would have to go over it many times and probably decide he wasn't the power behind the words, which is where I am now.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is a intelligent man and that is why bush is scared to have a head to head debate with him.

I think he actually did a pretty good job poking g.w. in the eye for a little while until he went off on nonsensical stuff at the end of he tirade.

He's a complete nut job. He worships Hitler and wants to get a nuke. A very dangerous combination.

BTW, JoeAmerican, I believe your referring to Chavez and his recent tirade at the UN
