can someone provide me instructions on how to flush the coolant system and/or to see if there is a clog in the coolant system? the car overheats. i have replaced the radiator, put in a new heater coil and replaced the thermometer (?). i have also put a new gasket seal on the valve covers. any suggestions?

You don't need to flush the system again, it was flushed when you changed the radiator. (at least it should've been, you don't put old coolant in a new radiator)

Water pump might be bad? if all those other parts didn't fix it.

Another possibility is the wrong thermostat was installed? Those old GM cars had several varieties that would fit.

Finally, if nothing else helps, you might have a bad head gasket or other internal damage (ie... a cracked block). Is there oil showing up in the coolant? or the opposite, is the oil level high and getting higher? That means coolant is getting into the oil pan. You can drain the oil and check that?

It is easier to have a shop do it. Most oil change places offer the service.

Otherwise, go to the parts store and get a "Flush" kit. It will have a fitting that goes in the heater line and a chemical to use for the flush. Follow the instructions for the brand you buy. Each is a little different.

Check the thermostatic fan clutch.

thought!!!!!!!! that year of car... did you perhaps......... put the thermostat in backwards???????? ive heard of that on earlier models.....
