i think that gay, lesbian, and homosexuals should have the same rights as all other people.
we are all humans and who they are attracted shouldn't affect how they live their lives or place limitations on people's lives.

This is a highly controversial issue and you will receive one of two responses, either an emphatic yes or no. Personally I have read differing versions of studies which go both ways on the effects this has on children. So, until there is a definitive study which lays it open one way or the other, I have to say I do not support gay couples adopting children. There are so many couples who are hetrosexual waiting for a child so we are not facing a shortage of homes for children who need them. Until we know exactly how this affects children I would vote against this occurring.
Now, there is not a way of stopping gay women from having their own children and the government should not have a say in any womans reproductive rights. I support the removal of a child only if there is clear and present danger to a child, regardless of the home the child is in.
I have come to my conclusions reluctantly and with careful thought. I do not like having to oppose this, but in all conscienceness I have too until we know for sure. Sadly, we have to have these children adopted and wait for them to grow up to determine the effects and this means an entire generation of children may suffer for it. I hope it turns out that there is not any real adverse affects other than a bit of stigma. We all have certain stigmas growing up so this is somthing each child will deal with and grow stronger for having dealt with it in a healthy way. I am referring to every child's hardships regardless of the home they live in. Children raised in foster homes suffer stigma, children of divorced parents have stigma AND highly adverse affects. Studies clearly show children from broken or single parent homes do not do as well as children in stable homes with a nuclear family unit.
Also, and this needs to be included in this discussion: Studies have shown that there is a higher degree of and severity in, domestic violence between gay couples verses hetrosexual couples. This is an important aspect of how a child could be affected raised in a gay household. Any child raised around domestic violence will be badly damaged. So, we need to be careful in this area. This is not a black/white issue, but one of many layers and considerations.
Where AdamKadmo get the idea hetrosexuals "put out gay kids" is beyound me. People who are gay are born that way, they are not "put" or "made" that way by events of childhood or any religious leanings. If we are going to answer a serous issue lets at least attempt to stay properly on topic and not put forth myths.
Thanks for this question, it is an important issue and needs open discussion.

According to the 2000 Census, 34 percent of female same-sex couples and 22 percent of male same-sex couples have at least one child under 18 living in their homes.
This doesn't mean they're all adopted children. As you probably know, the battle over whether gays or gay couples should be able to adopt children or serve as foster parents is being fought in state legislatures around the country.
Opponents of gay adoption express fears that living in such environments will cause emotional, social, and sexual problems for the children as they mature.
However, several studies have shown no difference in the development of children raised in homosexual or heterosexual households.
One study has shown that children raised in lesbian homes show no difference from children raised in heterosexual homes in "measures of popularity, social adjustment, gender role behavior, gender identity, intelligence, self-concept, emotional problems, interest in marriage and parenting, locus of control, moral development, independence, ego functions, object relations, or self esteem."
(See: Meyer, "Legal, Psychological, and Medical Considerations in Lesbian Parenting," Law & Sexuality: Rev. Lesbian & Gay Legal Issues. Pages 239 & 240. 1992.)
"A number of studies comparing children raised by two mothers and those raised by a mother and a father have not found any relation between same-sex parenting and a greater likelihood of identifying later in life as gay or lesbian." (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adoption_by_same-sex_couples#_ref-0, with sources cited in the article)

Why not. The countries gone to hell anyway. Back in the old days, you were hung for being left handed.... Now gays can get married and all sorts. Where did we go wrong? and just for the record I don't care how many thumbs down I get. This is my opinion if I was in charge this question would never need to be answered.

so many variables would you not suspect such a study to be heavily influenced by the studiers preferance, and then society is ever changing and different in different places like north vs south
isee se some say gay people should have rights and I ask is one right a person should have is not to be raised by gay people. The kid is the one who should have rights, like the right to experience life thats a pretty good right to give a living being. Everyone wants their rights but no one seems interested that we all should have some rights and the younger the more rights should be granted

Hello?
STRAIGHT PEOPLE ARE THE ONE PUTTING OUT "GAY" KIDS.
So, yeah, unless "Christians" would open up their Hearts and Homes (which THEY ARE UNWILLING TO DO) to adopt all children needing homes, these children DESERVE a chance to live in a happy, safe and secure home, even if its with 2 Moms or 2 Dads! Who cares? They'll be loved, safe, and have lots of LOVE!

well i don't know, but i don't see any thing wrong with it. and yes some one said that its not natural being gay, although i am not a gay, but i know that being straight isn't natural either, its just that most of us are "straight", but there are gay animals as well, many chimps show gay behavior now they (chimps) were not ought to be gay, and they were definitely not forced by the "society" to become gay, but they show this behavior. people really need to think out whats "natural."

I think that they should be allowed to adopt. There are so many awful people, and so many awful parents...it may be a great improvement for the worlds children. Most gays seem to be quite kind and also very maternal and nurturing! I vote yes!

There are lots of homosexual people that are raising children, and they are turning out just fine! The teenagers are probably embarrased by their parents, but all teenagers are. I think that the children of gays and lesbians turn out to be more open minded and less judgemental than most children.
Hope this helps!

i think not... but it's a very tough call.. i lean just slightly more to the no side.. i think it's complicated for a child ...why do u have 2 mommies? etc.
but who is to say gay parents can't love a child and won't do an excellent job raising em??? it's unfair to tell someone, u are forbidden to love a child. also who is to say that they won't be better parents than straigt people for example those who abuse their children........
i think i convinced myself that they SHOULD be allowes to....
hope some of you do too.

You know, there are so many damn unwanted kids in this world that I think anyone who chooses to adopt should be commended. It's been proven that gay couples do no better or worse in raising children, so why the hell not?
