I hate her she talks all the time & is whining all the time about being sick, migraines, insomnia, anything else under the sun. She is driving me crazy to where I want to leave my perfectly stable job.

I had exactly the same problem one day. She was talking and talking and in the same office, we shared the same room. She was a nightmare.

At first I asked to please not talk to me when I work. She could not hold back and started talking again shortly after.
Then I told her in a pretty significant voice (ahem) to shupt up and leave me alone and that I am not interested in her stories because I am busy with work.
That did not really help either.

However - my manager at that time got notice of the issue and I had complained to someone with a good relationship to the manager.
And - that made them fire her.

So I guess the best way (this is what I would do today) is to give her one chance and talk with her and ask to not talk with you any more.
It wil likely not help.
Then I would talk to my superior about the problem and make it clear that my work and the quality of my work will suffer due to this distraction . Your boss hsould be very interested to stop that woman.
If that does not help either and you really like your job then I would make an appointment with HR and describe the situation and ask them to help you find a solution. Like putting you into separate areas or giving her a formal (HR issued) request to not disturb you.
However - if it comes to that point she may already be on a list may just get fired anyways. Those chatters never change or shut up ever.

Godd luck .

tell her to seek a professional and get back to work.

well i guess you can do it if you were the boss.

if you say it as an employee she may run to the boss crying.

wear earplugs and ignore her.

time will tell her to buy a clue.

or do what i do.. act all positive and tell her what her options are and be all stern about it... with most they shut up after a while thinking you're a rude *** and not giving them the pity they desire, she'll run like the rest.

it's a sorry waste of time but so is she.

time to work some tough a.s.s tact on her and tell her in a kind, gentle way to "get the hell over it and get back to work"

i finally shut up a whiner bag after he got the sh.it.s of me telling him how to maximize his happiness in every situation.

the last straw was... "if it's raining on you, get an umbrella" well that did it, he called me rude and has avoided me and moved onto another.

I had a co-worker once who would turn the radio up louder when she was ready to stop talking and get down to work.
I got the message without being too offended!

You can also announce that you need to use the restroom and get up and go to break her rant.

Don't know if these will work with your job but good luck anyway.

Haha...I was in this position not too long ago. I finally just told the girl that I was sick of listening to it, and that she needs to stop bringing her personal issues to work. She used to sit right across from me, but after I told her to shut up, she asked to be moved. HAHA! Now she doesn't talk to me...she's just gone on to her next victims. Those poor people. I also agree with what Tori said....tell her that her negative attitude is dragging you down and affecting your work.

Tell her that although you appreciate she has some concerns but say that you are worried about a few things yourself that you're not willing to disclose and that her problems are upsetting you.

Hopefully she'll take the hint...but if not, you'll just have to say.. Look I can't help you just now..I need to deal with this at the moment.

If she still doesn't get it..you'll just have to say..."Look will you stop off loading your problems..i'm not interested!!!"

Try to change the subject to a more postive one, perhaps. If you truly hate her, then why not just avoid conversation with her? Talk with other people, get on the phone, or just tell her to perk up!

Just tell her that you are not interested in listening to her anymore. You have enough things to take care.

look at them in the eyes when they begin talking. yawn. keep looking them straight in the eyes. look at your watch. eye contact again. head tilt from extreme left to extreme right. look over concered. still talking? the chick has issues and tell her you realize misery loves company, but you can't stay.

tell her be direct...your negative attitude is bringing me down. I am really feeling pretty bad, but can you try and be more positive?
