Just wondering? I personally am highly irritated by this when people get mad if a black person is into metal or rock or is gothic or likes country music or whateve.r Claiming they are fake that they are racist and aren't being true to their people. I mean I would love to hear your opinions on this.
Me and my friend who wants to do metal music were discussing these standards...stupid standards, and we were wondering if you've ever went thorugh this depending on your race or if you agree/dissagree. Well that's all.

By the way I am NOT a moron who thinks there are racial boundaries to ANYTHING. I love music, it's perfection, its my soundtrack and I listen to everything but Rap and Emo. It's just got so annoying recently with idiots always making comments about me..and my friends who don't listen to what they think we 'should'.

I run into that a bit. I am a 55 yo white male and love hip-hop. I count Michael Franti as one of my best friends. And sometimes, when I'm at a festival or a show I get some of that crap from people. I just ignore it. I know who I am and what I like and really don't care what anybody thinks of it. I would say though that MOST everybody treats me well and accepts me.

That is one of the wonderful, unifying aspects of music. It is an international language!
I think that is one reason music is so important : to help the world feel like we're all on the same boat in space and need to get along.
Words can be propaganda for political agendas and hurtful/helpful, but music cannot be twisted that way.
I love zydeco music, and I am not native to Louisiana. I love rock and roll and I am not white trash or black. I love classical and I am not rich or over-educated. I love jazz/blues and I don't smoke pot or shoot heroin.. I love Chinese, Mexican, and Polish music and I am of German heritage. I listen to Country music and my dog is still alive and I ain't cheatin' on my may-an. I like New Age music, and electronic music, too.
I don't like hip-hop and rap and most metal because the words are too angry and violent- some of the music is wonderful.
I think there should make no difference what color ears you have.

I live in L.A., which seems to be WAY different from other parts of the country - but I'm white and my boyfriend is black. I like r&b - Omarion, Anthony Hamilton, Donnell Jones, Brian McKnight, and some rap - I used to watch BET uncut when that show was on. My boyfriend like's Rob Thomas, Matchbox 20, Enya, and crazy stuff like that. I don't think anyone see's anything wrong with it. I wouldn't have it any other way. People think I'm a little weird sometimes, but I don't care.

yet another person that watches somewhat too lots television. maximum black human beings do no longer in effective condition into that, no longer even all the blacks from the ghetto act that way. i will admit that some black youths are falling into that form of pastime, yet no longer all of them, i do no longer prefer to be in a gang, yet i like Hip Hop (specifically old college). inspite of each and every thing i'm a B-boy so hip hop is something i will love. yet besides what are you able to assume we've been "freed" a hundred and forty years in the past then legally discriminated against for yet another a hundred then given equivalent rights rights 40 years in the past. Then envisioned to fully combine in with all people else, for sure some blacks weren't going to be waiting to overcome and have been given caught interior the ghetto. we've a unequal representation in regulation Enforcement, Judicial equipment, and exceptionally the Media. i do no longer recommend to "play the race card" yet it is the fact. yet we nevertheless are generally sturdy electorate, and have been waiting to overcome many stuff for the time of the final a hundred and forty years.

No, I don't think music can be divided into races and that you can like whatever music you want to. Just ignore people who say otherwise. Have you ever heard of Jimmy Hendrix, Living Color, Fishbone, Bad Brains...? It's strange to me that when I was young music was just new or old, and now it's more and more divided into genres. I hate it, because it was great to listen to all different things without having to pick what genre I like. I still like all different music, but now it's tough to shop around and try all the different stuff because stations, shows, websites, etc. are all separated by genres. I am proud of you for being true to yourselves. That's what's really important.

Music has no racial boundaries, and if someone claims otherwise they're an idiot. Just calling a certain type of music "black" or "white" makes no sense.

For heaven's sake, it's ONLY music!

No race can claim ownership of any particular genre of music, unless the instruments used are native to a country.

listen to music because you like it. if it makes you feel good then listen to it. the only thing life is missing is a sound track. ya i listen to some hip hop but it doesnt make me a b-boy. some time s i listen to gangster rap but it dosnt make me a wigga. But i do listen to punk rock. some people think you should listen to only listen to one type of music? They better check themselves before they wreck themselves homey!! oi oi oi !
