Seems everyday in the paper some study has been done for this or that and most times they seem totally useless.

There is no way to know. Most studies don't just last a year. On the positive side a lot of good inventions have come from government money and grants and cures are found every day the same way. Most of the studies you are speaking of however are not government funded. They are privately funded.

Billions and billions I'm sure....especially when you're examining this from a fully national perspective.

Hell, when I was still 'living' in Pennsyltucky....they wasted multiple millions every year on the stupidest of things.

A new baseball stadium in Pittsburgh for example....when no one really even cared about the Pirates.

A Civil War museum and various artifacts from that age throughout central PA.....millions wasted. They built an attraction that appeals to maybe..eh, 2% of the population and wasted well over 6 figures on it.

Stupidity in the government, both locally, statewide, and nationally.

You're absolutely right. Check Yahoo for the Citizens Against Government Waste (CCAGW) ratings of your U.S. Senators. In 2004 they gave John McCain (Republican, Arizona) a "Super-hero" 91% positive rating for his efforts against pork-barrel spending, and Nancy Pelosi (Democrat, California) a ZERO. Democrats averaged VERY LOW ratings.
