Even though he is a Dem, I still respect this guy.
As Chavez spoke in Harlem, U.S. Rep. Charles Rangel railed against the Venezuelan leader for choosing his New York congressional district to launch an attack on the president of the United States.
"You don't come into my country, you don't come into my congressional district and criticize my president, " Rangel said from Capitol Hill.
He added that "it would be crazy to think that Americans do not feel offended" by Chavez's remarks.

Rep. Charles Rangel, D-N.Y., an often vocal critic of the Bush administration, came to the president's defense Thursday when he chided Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez for his inflammatory remarks at the United Nations.
"An attack on Bush is an attack on all Americans," Rangel said in a news conference. "You do not come into my country, my congressional district, and you do not condemn my president. If there is any criticism of President Bush, it should be restricted to Americans, whether they voted for him or not."
Rangel continued: "I just want to make it abundantly clear to Hugo Chavez or any other president, do not come to the United States and think because we have problems with our president that any foreigner can come to our country and not think that Americans do not feel offended when you offend our chief of state."

At last, something that I can agree with a Democrat on!
Anyone American who is not outraged by Chavez's comments should seriously consider renouncing their citizenship and moving to another country.
Frankly, I am surprised (and somewhat disappointed) that Chavez has been able to appear in public in New York following his comments and not been torn limb from limb by an angry mob.

Although I am not a fan of Bush, I respect what Rangel said.
Besides, Chavez was making a grandstand play and at the UN presentation trumps content.

First of all...he isn't MY president. I didn't vote for him, and he essentially got the job by using his brother and the overly-conservative Supreme Court to steal the job from under our noses.
Second...Chavez was merely reacting to Bush's totalitarian comments at the UN the day before. Bush basically told everyone that they should just let his policies decide world events. How ego-centric to think his opinions and policies are the only ones that matter in the ENTIRE WORLD?

Yes, definitely.. I have 'affection' for all the dems.. even tho I lean conservative.. tho sometimes moderate
----P.S, it was very much a _Liberal_ Supreme Court which decided the election in Bush's favor.. the same one we can thank such increased "emminent domain" for (where citizen's land is confiscated, and not just for schools, highways, etc, but for developement - does the government in effect own all the land now? while we worry about the monitoring of terrorist's phone calls to the U.S..)

Your question is being put to alot of people who don't believe Bush is the legally elected President.
How can you ask if we love us some Rangel for supporting a man who many MANY know undermined our nation and its laws?
What kind of a question IS this??????
If Rangel has ever expressed his doubts about the legitimacy of Bush, I actually respect him less now for grandstanding.

the thought that the international community criticizes Bush because of the fact the Democrats "gave them permission" to accomplish that could be a ludicrous one. regardless of if the Democrats have been silent for the previous six years (rather of the previous 3-a million/2), Chavez could have nevertheless mentioned the coolest comparable issues. As could all the different insane and sane people who hate Bush. i think of we are all stupider for having examine your silly question.
