contains 1% suplur by mass. If the power station burns 5600 tonnes of coal a day, what mass of sulphur dioxide gas is released into the air each day?

It's an interesting question.
The mass of sulphur will be 56 tonnes -- but remember, sulphur dioxide contains oxygen as well! Looking at the periodic table, you see that two oxygen atoms are the same mass as one sulphur. How fortunate! 56 tonnes sulphur + 56 tonnes oxygen = 112 tonnes sulphur dioxide.

a power station produces electrical energy by using spinning a large electromagnet interior a gadget that is composed of large coils of insulated cord those wires are taken out from the ability station and fed around the country imparting electrical energy to properties and agencies and so on. Steam at intense temperature and stress is used to spin the electromagnet. This steam is produced in a furnace or boiler it is heated by using burning coal to generate the warmth required to coach water into steam. Coal is a fossil gas like oil and is composed of hydrocarbons (hydrogen and carbon compounds) that burn in the presence of oxygen. whilst the gas burns in the boiler a chemical reaction happens wherein the carbon in the coal and the oxygen in the air interior the boiler combine into the gas carbon dioxide. on the comparable time this chemical reaction releases power in one in each of those warmth that turns the water into steam that turns the magnet.
