He's been stuffed up for almost a week. I don't want to run to the doctor with everything, but I'm not sure if I should. he has not had a fever, and now he has a little cough too (it's so sad). If I have to restrain him to use the aspirator again, I might die. We are taking warm baths with the Johnsons cold vapor bath, and I am using an over the counter decongestiont they said I could use last time. Any ideas?

Call the doctor. It's his first illness. No one is going to think it's overreacting. You need to be sure you're doing the right things. Don't risk making a dumb mistake at your child's expense.

Sounds like a cold and don't worry about going to the doctor for every little thing...you have a right! When my daughter got her first cold I was hysterical. I took her to the doctor 2 times because it took her almost 2 weeks to get over it! All I can tell you is what the doc told me...
1) Prop up his bassinet or crib mattress so that it is easier for him to breathe
2) Use dimetapp or pediacare decongestants every 6 hours and if the baby still acts like he is being bothered by the cold you can use .8 ml of infants Tylenol every 8 hours (my daughter had her cold at 2 months and they said Tylenol was okay)
3) Use the vapor bath and you could get some BABY VICKS you know the stuff that you rub on your chest to help relieve the cough. They make it in babies size now and I always put it on her after her bath at night just about a quarter size amount on her chest and then rub it around
4) You can use to little noses baby saline drops to loosen the congestion in his nose and then use the aspirator to suck the mucus out.
5) Get a humidifier and put it close to where the baby is at all times...during the day in the play area he's at and at night as close to the crib as possible.

There is a Vicks formula for babies over 3 months, so that should be okay for him. If you don't have a humidifier going, start. You should have it where the baby spends most of his time, so in the living room during the day and in his bedroom at night. I know the aspirator is horrible, but it is the best thing you can do for him. Keep his nose clear, the cough might be from drainage running down his throat, so if his nose is clear more of the drainage might come out of his nose instead of going down his throat.

Don't feel bad about taking him to the doctor even if he has no fever. Be sure and take whatever medication you are giving him. No one is going to be upset with you for caring about his health.

The cough is probably due to post nasal drip from the runny and stuffy nose.

Best suggestion ever given to me: Turn your bathroom shower on hot water only... close the door and let the bathroom steam up. Go sit in the steamy bathroom with your baby and a book or some music for about 10 or 15 minutes at a time. The steam will loosen up the mucus in his nose (and it helps you too at the same time for your nose and pores lol).

This has been helping my daughter now since she was born! Give it a try! Good Luck!

If he has not had a fever it could quite possibly be allergies. I used something in a white bottle i bought from the pharmacy called Ocean Drops. It is a saline solution that just helps break up the stuff in her nose so she can breathe. Also i used benadryl for her other symptoms. I never realized before then that you can have a sore throat or cough due to allergies, and not just a cold. Sometimes the Vicks vaporizor would help her sleep at night too.

The best thing you can do is to take a Q-Tip and dab a little bit just below his nostrils. Never use a decongestant on a child. You could ruin him for life.

The child must be kept warm at all times, no drafts and you might get an Air Filter Appliance, if you live in a pollution area. That will reduce any irritation do to bad air.

Run a cool mist vaporizor to put moisture in the air.
Also fill the bathroom with steam from a hot hot hot shower and sit in there for awhile, the stuffy nose will run.
Sucking the nose is a pain but it works wonders, try it after the steam filled bathroom.

Elevate the head of his crib mattress so he can breathe. (gravity) Also a humidifier will help. I think 3 months is too young for the sudafed vapor plug in thingys, but they work great for that. I hope he feels better soon.

calpol will give him some relief from the blocked nose...
i also put some (very little as it is really strong) ravensol essential oil on my baby's clothes (chest area) which really helps to clear the nose. vick's baby rub i bleieve works too for clearing the nose... again you put this on the chest area.
i never used an unblocker thingymigig... i just endevoured to keep the nose area as clean as possible, and let it run.

Use baby saline nose drops and then suction out his lil nose. Works great. Also baby Vicks helps him breathe.
