he is a clever cookie that thinks on more than 1 level yes he is getting publicity for this, but also he is taking the long term view - he is putting the money from his TRANSPORT division into researching FUEL so he can fuel them when oil runs out what good is a plane with no fuel if he is lucky he will find alternative sources that are cheaper for him to use to keep his vehicles moving. also he gains because R and D always pops up a few money earners along the way often very unexpected ones so his investment of profit will probably earn him a lot more than he is spending

Basically because he cares, and can afford to show it. At the same time he is setting an example to other people or governments who can afford it as much as he can, or more. A bit of provocation and the challenge not to lose face, maybe? Worked on Bush.
Bless him, as someone has got one of our priorities right ... doesn't matter what his motives might be; perhaps he was as fed up as the rest of us with governments that won't listen and aggravate the environmental issues. Perhaps he just wants to go down in history for something other than what he has already accomplished. But at least he acted, and for the good of us all.

Prometheus_unbound, have u got more to give? Doubt it. Yes, it is exactly like that but aren't you a little sarcastic. It could be publicity, I hope not, he's got many other ways to do that. If only there were a couple more people like him so we could throw a giant Ice berg to the sun. Maybe the USA could throw in some of that hefty $ they got. There again they just pass it on to the people again if they did. We do need to patch up the o-zone & fast so we'll see what this money can do. Either way, to give is better than to recieve.

I think he proabably wants to get into politics, and he just done more for the people than nayo f the policitcians are at the moment.
I think it is admirable, but istead o throwing money at it, he personally should be working towards creating a better way for long distance travel.
Considering his business include one of the biggest problems thst we are facing in our quest to become green, he runs planes, and they contribute largely to the atmospheric problems. We need to travel long distance, all he is doing is giving back the money he effectively cost the planet.
But he is doing more than anyone, which is a pity, as it should be leaders of countrys doing more, not one self made man.

His motivation is two-fold:
1. To participate in the greater good by demonstrating a social conscience and helping others.
2. To tithe, giving without expectation of reward, thus activating the law of tenfold return, which increases prosperity on all levels.
Giving is a gift, to everyone concerned. It is success consciousness in action.

Well its these super rich people that are the ones most likely to be able to make any difference to global warming.
It might make other people take the issue more seriously.

To be a player when the oil runs out. He will make a fortune in the future. A risk worth taking.
Depends on how the big oil companies try to derail his plans.
