Both parties are full of garbage.
The republicans are violating the first and fourth amendments.
The Dem's have been whittling away at the second amendment since 69

I saw a 20/20 program on the polarization of the US populace. It's really happened over only the past 30 years or so. And it's fueled by the media. Having a political talk show in which the two sides actually TALK is not good for ratings. You want them to ARGUE. So you bring on the two people with the most polarized opinions, and you toss them loaded questions until they freak.
It's also driven more by CONSERVATIVE media and talk shows, like Rush and O'Riley. Of course, this might be because there are NO popular liberal talk shows. (Goodbye, Air America!)
In the 1960s, the House Majority Leader and the House Minority Leader might get together for drinks and discuss something, or take a weekend fishing trip together to iron out a particularly thorny issue. That doesn't happen today. If you're not in lock-step with the Party, you're OUT.
More and more, the parties are controlled from the fringes, and the moderates have less and less in common with them. Perhaps the time has come for a centrist third party. It would either become the swing vote on every issue, or perhaps convince the Reps and Dems to pull together against a common enemy!

The U.S. was built on compromise and a lot of compromising still takes place. Unfortunately, both parties sometimes are more interested in their party line, than the people they are actually there to serve.

I think it's just a sign of the times. People everywhere are becoming more passionate in their opinions. 911 had that affect on people, I know it did me. It forced me to re-examine myself and my beliefs, my Faith.
When I saw the Senate stand on the steps of the Capital and sing "God Bless America" and within a week were back to status quo I became angry.

I don't know why people are so bitter.. does everyone think the world is falling apart, and the only resolution is the blame game? isn't the blame game actually prejudism.. isn't it true, there are 'good' and 'bad' - 'wise' and 'foolish' in all groups (and races) including our political parties.. but we choose hatred.. instead of listening to one another..

You cannot compromise with idiots, and they, on the far left, are idiots. As a conservative you will never get me to compromise on baby murder. There is no middle ground, abortion is wrong. Regardless of religion, taking babies out of their mothers and tossing them in incinerators is evil. This is basically the only issue where there is no room for compromise. And I cannot side with people who think baby sacrifice is ok.

I believe there is room to reach agreement on some things but, there are some that I couldn't budge on, abortion being just one. I don't believe there is middle ground on things that I see foundationally wrong.
