I am 38 weeks and 2 days and have had this pain (some of you may have read about it) that feels like my baby is cutting his way out with a knife on the top of my uterus. It has gotten to the point where I cant sit, stand, or even lay down to sleep! The mild Vicodin she gave me wont help and tylenol wont either. I called L&D and they said since it doesn't "sound" like I am in labor that they would probably just send me home. Why wont they even do an ultrasound to make sure everything is ok? I have read that placental abruption causes pain with or without bleeding. I know you guys are not doctors bu I just need to VENT! My fiancee said that if i decide to go in he will go with me and tell them to do an ultrsound or something. would that make me look bad or should I take his advice? I dont want them to think I just want drugs because I dont even like taking tylenol but It hurts SO bad. I just want to know everthing is ok?

Go to the emergency room anyway....like they said, if you're not in labor, they will send you home, but not before taking a look at you first to see if something is wrong. Maybe the baby is just pushing up against your diaphragm...I remember this happening when I was pregnant, but I didnt make it to 38 weeks, farthest I got was 36, so my daughter was pretty small, and my pains weren't as horrible as yours sound. Anyway...go to the ER. They can't turn you away.

Sometimes you can make yourself scared by all the horrors you read about that can happen, while you are pregnant. You are probably fine, but if it is something that terrifies you like you sound....then I would ask my doctor to do an ultrasound (just be forewarned it may not be covered by your insurance). I don't know if this is your first pregnancy or not, I hate to say it...sometimes being pregnant can just plain hurt. Sharp pains from the baby jabbing you in the ribs, or sciatic pains....you name it. If you are that far a long, and have had an otherwise healthy pregnancy I would think you are going to be OK. Good luck. And if you decide to not request a ultrasound....try to just enjoy the pregnancy as much as you can, because it will soon be over! CONGRATULATIONS!

I got that at the bottom but I was standing a lot and I was older, so I assumed that my daughter was just pressing down on some muscles or ligaments. It hurt like hell but sitting helped, so you probably don't have the same thing.

I like the advice others have given. It seems like an ultrasound would show you where the placenta is so you could determine if it is the cause of your pain.

Isn't it possible that you could be getting some sort of irregular contractions? Maybe the nurses at the hospital would have some idea as to what is causing your pain.

Just relax. Those pains could be from stress. If it makes you feel better, go to the doctor and say Hey I want an ultrasound, I think something is wrong. Tell them you wont be able to sleep because its causing you too much stress. Hell id go as far as to say im not leaving until they do an ultrasound. Anything to put your mind at ease. In the mean time, keep those tylenol close by, and call your doctor. Good Luck!

My SIL and that i are both human beings residing in Mexico. We were both pregnant together. I used a well being care specialist the following in Mexico and he or she had midwife visits over the telephone. She ought to take piss checks everymonth herself and phone the midwife with effects. She ought to bypass to clinics and get the bloodwork achieved at the same time as necessary. She were given a million ultrasound achieved the completed time because she thinks ultrasounds are the devil. She had her toddler at domicile with a midwife and her mom. I on the otherhand visited my well being care specialist each month, and had my toddler in a well being facility by making use of emergency c section. with out ultrasounds my toddler ought to have died, I wasnt yet late and my daughter wasnt recieving some thing from my placenta. i imagine that's available and quite common that you bypass and in no way some thing ever takes position to you in any respect and also you sense that it changed into worthless, yet an hour of a few time a month to ascertain a healthy toddler isnt a lot to ask is it? that's available to have a healthy toddler and in no way recieve care, yet what takes position if there is somthing incorrect with the toddler. interior the suitable, that's a personal desision and a threat.

Walk right into labor and delivery (don't call again) and say I'm in labor. They HAVE to check you then! I hear your pain; some doctors and most of the hospital staff are total jerks. I have all the same problems. They don't care if our babies are healthy or not and that sucks big-time. I'm so sorry that you are feeling so badly. Just go in (acting like you are oblivious) and say "Oh, I think I'm in labor; it hurts very bad" with a sweet face and they have to help you. Don't go to emergency though-right to the maternity ward or wherever they told you to go if you do happen to be in labor.Good luck!

Your definitely a pregnant women that wants her baby out and the pain to stop. It is completely normal and your just freaking yourself out. It happens to us all at one point in pregnancy.
Just try to stay calm and maybe talk to your doctor and see if he will induce you. Your far enough along to get induced and then you wont have to deal with the pain and irritability any more.
Good luck and I would suggest not going into the hospital.
Everything is fine with your baby.

If you just want to make sure everything is ok, I would go to the ER and take your fiancee's advice. If he goes with you and you're in so much pain just go. I would if i was in your shoes i would go no matter what. I don't think it would make you look bad you're just really concerned. All mothers should be if they are pregnant...it's a normal thing to be concerned about. I hope everything is ok and works out for you. Congratulations on your pregnancy and good luck for the future.

Look, if the doctor you're seeing isn't checking into it, go to a different one. Or call them up and tell them you demand to have an ultrasound so you can be certain that it's nothing dangerous. Stand up for yourself. You're paying for their services. They should be willing to help you. Tell them up front that you don't want drugs, you want an explanation for the pain. Tell them you want to know what and why it is. You have to communicate what you want very clearly and sometimes in an overloud tone. Taking your boyfriend will help.

I would go in and demand an ultrasound. They should give you one because you are the one paying for it. Even if they send you home, just go in and tell them that you are having a bad feeling and you want an ultrasound to make sure that everything is okay to make you feel better. Have your fiancee tell them as well. Lol...be hateful if you have to.
