I know what you are going through. I knew my family would think my daughter's name was weird, it's Samara, so we kept it a secret until she was born. I am pregnant with my second baby and her name is also a secret from my side of the family, it's going to be Willow. My family is a very traditional midwestern family and after the grief they gave my sister for naming her kids Eli and Ebony, I decided not to give them time to argue.
Carmella is a beautiful name! I'm sure she'll be a beautiful girl, if it's a girl.

It sounds like family and friends are important to you when it comes to your baby, but you need to realize that its your baby and that it will be a lot of decisions you make that family and friends won't like or give a great responses too. So I wouldn't say you are sensitive you just want to include your family and friends in the naming of your baby and I think that's great. So you don't get a great responses, so what its your baby and if your family and friends love you it not going to matter in the end. As long as they keep supporting you. Congrats and Good Luck~~~Pretty name.

I personally don't like the name you chose. Kids might make fun of her more than they usually would for a more normal name. When people see this name, they will think of caramel.
But I also agree with the above posts, it is your baby and you should name her with a name you are comfortable with. You can listen to your family and consider the the name carefully, then make your own decision and ask the family to stop talking about it.
Better yet, tell the family it is a surprise. They are much less likely to make negative comments after you have named the baby.

I love that name. I think you may be being a little too sensitive but if they are critisizing speak up and say you'd appreciate it if they were at least nice about it. If they are just not saying anything, I would let it go. Congrats on the baby by the way!

I dont see why they would react bad. Carmella is a beautiful name. I say go with the name you want. Its Your baby, not theirs. they will grow to love it with time. I had the same reaction with my daughter's name (Emily Candiace), they said it was too Amish. Naw, I named her Emily anyway. So go for it.
