If it is in your lower right region of your stomach, and it is a sharp shooting pain, then it could be your appendix. Go to the ER immediately, do not pass go, do not collect $200. A burst appendix can be very painful and if not treated within 24 hours can be deadly.
Otherwise make an appt. with your doctor. It could be an ulcer if it hurts after you eat. It could be gallstones if your back hurts too. It could be cramps, lots of things. When you talk to your doctor, be sure to tell him what makes it better (like lying on your side).

I just can't get over how many people on here have something painful going on--what they are saying is urgent--yet they provide no details and expect complete stranger to tell them what to do.
If you have severe pain in your stomach that won't go away, why don't you go to urgent care or call your doctor's office. You could talk to the nurse and she could actually help you.
