Not sure how easy it is to open a US savings account while not living in the country, but online accounts are great. Not only do you not have to leave your computer but the rates are better. The best around is emigrantdirect.com and ingdirect.com.

The most secure and legal way is to do a Bank to Bank Wire Transfer.

Your bank in the Sudan should be able to facillitate the effort, get you all of the proper forms and represent you with the US or UK bank

Check with the bank in which you want to open an account, if you have a social security card and picture ID, thats it.
The monthly fees will chew all your money though, consider a Swiss account or countries that have no manthly fess and taxes.

Sorry to answer a question with a question....but why do you want to set up a savings account here if you are traveling here or don't live here?

I'm pretty sure that American banks require a social security card or at least verification of some sort of residency.

You probably can't. After 9/11, many countries, including U.S. and UK, have tightened their know-your-customer rules for banks. As a result, it is not as easy to open accounts without physical presence as it once was...
