I thought about this a while.....and now it's really gratin on my nerves. Au.....

"Au gratin" does not refer to the ingredients in the dish - it refers to the brown crispy crust the dish develops because of how you bake it. The best way to do it right is to use a particular type of pan that the French call a gratine.

Since I wrote the above to address my assumption that you were mistaken about what "au gratin" means, I guess my answer is yes, since you can easily bake potatoes in this style without adding milk or cheese. If you meant "can I bake these without the special dish?", my answer is also yes.

If, on the other hand, you were trying to ask "Can I bake potatoes with a brown and crispy crust without giving them a brown and crispy crust?", then my answer is no, and moreover you're a very silly person who should go put on a clown nose for a few hours or something.

Au gratin means "with cheese".
You could leave out the cheese and you would end up with potatoes in a cream sauce. If you are looking for alternative potato recipes, this is a good site:

yes i can make homemade au gratin potatoes...if u know how to make homemade mac n cheese follow the same ingredients except u use thinly sliced potatoes or u can use potato chips
