Hmmm.....maybe,I might be wrong but, just maybe it's because a LOT of rap music is remakes of older songs(or at least parts) and most of 'em by white people.....ya think? nah lol

As a white person who attended a 95% African American high school and as a sociology instructor, I can give a few reasons.
1) If they're in an environment (such as a mostly African American high school) where that is popular, some white kids will listen to the music because they want to fit in.
2) Some white people think it makes them look look tough or gives them street cred.
3) Some want to be different from others or to rebel.
3) Some feel they can relate to it.
4) Some just plain like it--the beat, the sound, the lyrics.
I'm sure there are also other reasons people have...and for many it is a combination of reasons. For some it will be a phase they are going through and for others it will be a life-long interest.

because it sounds good. what better reason could there be?
oh, and some people can understand the lyrics. if you listen to more than a few rap songs on the radio then you'll get use to it. i like every element of rap music, the rapping, the beat; sometimes i wonder why so many people who don't like it seek justification from people who do. isn't calling rap (c)rap and calling listeners of hip-hop moronic not trying to fit in with the crowd and seem cool? i couldn't give a damn about looking cool, i just genuinely enjoy all genres of music
oh, and for all those idiots who don't class rap as music:

just some clarification

Music is Music. . but as we all know Rap music has an influence on our Younger audience. They think they are cool or thugs when they listen to Rap Vs. other music. & Also, it the White ppl didnt listen / buy rap music as much as they do. .
PPL, like will smith would have never sold a record. & none of the rappers would be talking about Bling Bling & all that shiatt.
my opinion: rap has gone down the drain. ...it used to be much better in the 90's. now we got too many ppl with not as much skills.

because they can...it's music.
People can listen to whatever genre they choose because music has no certain audience...it's for whoever likes it.
I think it's dumb when people think certain genres of music are to be listened by certain groups of people only & nobody else can listen to it.

Music is a universal language especially if it is good. There is no white, yellow or black music as some musicians would want us to believe.
