I had a ladyfriend a while back who wore a corset all of the time except for when she took a bath. Hers came from both Vollers and Axfords. These are not toys, but the real thing and I learned the size is critical as well as the type. The waist should be 4 inches less than the natural waist size and the type should fit her torso. If the busk is too long for her body, it will not fit properly and be extremely uncomfortable. This is probably not something to buy as a surprise as there are quite a few variables in the sizing and you willl likely guess wrong. Close is not good enough for the most part. With the expense, you would be wise to be sure she is agreeable to the idea before spending so much on something she might never appreciate. With my ladyfriend, when I went to buy one for her to add to her collection, I let her point to the picture of the one which would fit her properly. By the way, not to worry about whalebone, as they stopped using that many years back. Now they use spring or spiral wound steel. Spiral wound flexes to fit more than the straight spring steel. Don't even consider plastic because it is too flexible and only suitable for toys. There is a wealth of information available at the Long Island Staylace site. Before you buy, read up on some of the history. It makes for interesting reading. All of my ladyfriend's corsets were absolute works of art, very pretty. I think your girlfriend willl appreciate a work of art from Axfords. (Or Vollers, prices are comparable)

OMG, YES!!! They are so sexy and make a woman feel so.
My tip: if you're going to get one, err on the smaller side so you have something worth cinching. A too-big corset is pointless as it holds nothing in. A corset that is a little on the small side will fit better...

If it was a really nice one. Depends how traditional you mean. I'd have a problem with whalebone cos I'm veggie, but otherwise...

I would appreciate it.. Maybe you would be best to be searching online when your g/f is there and come across some corsets and make a comment about them and see what her reaction is first?? maybe not? lol

My hubby bought me a really nice 1 with all the matching accessories. The thing is mine is one of those you lace up ( & pull tight) at the back, so he has to help me into it. So once its on, after all that hard work, it tends to stay on, as you can imagine!

Depends, traditional corsets were made with whale bone, which I would object to, but if it was made with modern materials I would be very happy to receive one.

Sure! But he'd have to get all my measurements first, so it would fit- it couldn't be a surprise...
A badly-fitting corset will be extremely uncomfortable...
