It is the English accent being used as well as the vowels that make it sound different. But if you look for British bands that are not so popular you will I am sure find some that sing with an accent.

I dunno.
But if Brits don't sound British when they sing, what do they sound like?
American?
And if that is the case, which American?
Dolly Parton American? Whitney Houston American? Josh Groban American? Usher American? Britney Spears American?
I can normally pick a British accent out immediately even if there is an attempt to ask it with something else.
Could it be possible that an American ear may not find it so simple to do that?

First of all this is not only true of British people but most people take Celine Dion or Ricky Martin, the stronger the accent the harder it is to hide it but this is one of the greatest levelers in the world, we all sing alike! Now if you listen to some Cockney singers you would not say they have no accent and Mr Inglesia's certainly does not lose his accent but for the most part we are all one when we sing!! Pretty cool huh?

I don't really know, but a lot of British actors and actresses don't sound British at all. EXAMPLE - Hugh Jackman, Wolverine in the X-MEN movies.
EXAMPLE - Lucy Lawless, Xena Warrior Princess.(actual she's from New Zealand but Australian is just a derived dialect of the British language)

Some hide their accents when they sing, but if you listen to the Beatles or the Rolling Stones, they did sound British when they sang.
It's also prevalent in modern artists, if you listen to Corrine Bailey Rae (Put Your Records On), she sounds incredibly British, especially with certain words.

It depends what you mean - opera singers don't tend to sing with an accent.
Some bands like Oasis and Blur sound very English. Some people learn to sing with a sort of mid atlantic twang - especially htose that sing in musicals.
Some Americans sing with an attempted English accent - anyone remember Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins :-)

It seems I saw this question a few days ago and I answered that I did not believe all Brits lost their British sound when they sang. I stated Elton John does not lose his accent at all. Hope this helps you decide.

I noticed that too. It's possible they try to sound American deliberately so they're easier to understand or to get Americans to like them better. Listen to Ozzy sing then hear him talk. Not only does he sound very English, but you can barley understand him. On his show he needed subtitles
